About the Authors

Paul Skousen is an American constitutional scholar, author, and university professor with extensive and in-depth research on the US Constitution and the socialist transformation of America. He served in the CIA and was a White House intelligence officer for President Reagan. He holds a master's degree in National Security Studies from Georgetown University and a degree in Journalism from Brigham Young University. He has authored 15 books.

Fang Wei is a seasoned media professional, American common sense scholar, and tech professional. With over 30 years in the tech and media industries, he has founded several media and technology companies. He hosts and participates in programs such as "Fang Wei Time," "Entering America," and the major historical narrative series "Stories of American History," demonstrating deep research into American history and contemporary affairs. Fang Wei graduated from Fudan University in Shanghai and earned a master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Iowa in the United States.

Foreword

In 1607, 104 English entrepreneurs and explorers settled on a small island in North America. This settlement was named Jamestown. They built a central storehouse for all food, requiring everyone to "contribute according to their ability and receive according to their need."

But the reality was that neither threats nor punishments could drive them to work hard. No one wanted to toil unpaid like a slave for others. This led to severe food shortages, hunger, and illness, causing many deaths. By Christmas, only 38 people remained.

The following year, hundreds of new immigrants arrived, but the problem was the same—only 40 men were actually working, while the rest were merely going through the motions. That winter, the residents nearly starved to death.

In the third year, another 500 new immigrants joined. These unfortunate residents first consumed all their food and livestock; then they hunted small animals and ate boiled leather shoes; after everything was gone, they resorted to eating the bodies of the dead. By the spring of the fourth year, only 60 people had survived in Jamestown.

This was a failed socialist experiment in the early North American colonies. Chinese readers might find this very similar to China's "People's Communes" of that era. This socialist system, characterized by common ownership of property and collective labor under violent compulsion, has caused immense suffering and gained notoriety worldwide, making it easy to identify.

However, there is another type of socialism, one that does not involve violent revolution, that remains imperceptible to many. For over a century, it has quietly advanced its goals in Western society. Moreover, many of these goals have already been achieved or partially realized. Operating under dazzling banners such as "science," "progress," "equality," and "social justice," they seemingly care about public welfare, but in reality, they exploit human greed and envy to seize power and continuously erode precious human freedom.

Not only that, these socialists, like those in totalitarian socialist countries, destroy people's faith, corrupt their morality, promote evolution and atheism, advocate sexual liberation and homosexuality, and legalize drugs by controlling various sectors such as justice, education, and media... Once human morality deteriorates to a point below human standards, humanity will face destruction. This is precisely the ultimate goal of socialism.

The German poet Hölderlin famously said, "What has always made the state a hell on earth has been precisely that man has tried to make it his heaven." This statement is profoundly philosophical and applies perfectly to both tyrannical socialist regimes and Western socialists who incrementally advance their goals.

The renowned philosopher and economist Ludwig von Mises succinctly stated: "It [socialism] is not the pioneer of a better and finer world, but the spoiler of what thousands of years of civilization have created. It does not build, it destroys. For destruction is its essence."

The profound revelation of the essence of socialism is precisely the original intention behind this book. Although most of the facts and arguments used in this book are based on examples from the United States, it will be instructive to you no matter where you are. This is because these problems exist in all countries, differing only in degree; the arguments in this book are primarily based on the U.S. Constitution and universal values.
