About the Authors

Paul Skousen is an American constitutional scholar, author, and university professor with extensive and in-depth research on the U.S. Constitution and the socialization of America. He served in the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and as a White House intelligence officer for President Reagan. He holds a master's degree in National Security Studies from Georgetown University and a degree in Journalism from Brigham Young University. He has authored 15 books.

Wei Fang is a senior media professional, American common sense scholar, and high-tech expert, with over 30 years of experience in the technology and media industries. He has founded multiple media and technology companies, and hosts and participates in programs such as "Wei Fang Time," "Into America," and the large-scale historical program "American History Tales," conducting in-depth research on American history and contemporary affairs. Wei Fang graduated from Fudan University in Shanghai and earned a master's degree in computer science from the University of Iowa in the United States.

Foreword

In the early 1830s, French political philosopher Alexis de Tocqueville traveled through the United States to study its nascent democratic system. He was amazed to find that American schoolchildren and ordinary citizens had a profound understanding of the Constitution and the American system, which truly surprised him. Upon returning to France, Tocqueville spent several years writing his famous work, "Democracy in America," which later became a classic study of American politics.

The widespread knowledge of the U.S. Constitution among the populace was largely due to the pamphlet "The Constitution of the United States: With Questions and Answers" published in 1828, authored by Arthur J. Stansbury, a Maryland legislator and lawyer. A pastor friend of his expressed concern that Americans did not understand the Constitution, and suggested that it would be excellent if people could gain a deep understanding of the Constitution through a simple Q&A format. Stansbury wholeheartedly agreed.

Subsequently, based on his professional knowledge and research, and incorporating the opinions of other legal experts, Stansbury meticulously compiled this easy-to-understand book, "The Constitution of the United States: With Questions and Answers." The first edition was a great success, and it was reprinted multiple times thereafter, becoming a textbook in elementary schools, middle schools, and even universities across the United States. During the American Civil War, it was also distributed to soldiers. It is estimated that from 1828 to the early 20th century, at least several million copies of this book were distributed.
